Outlook \/ OWA Sent Items Folder Missing &#8211; Sent Items in Contacts"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Recently we had a user report that their Sent Items folder had disappeared from Outlook.&nbsp; Upon investigation we discovered that the \u201cSent Items\u201d folder was missing from both Outlook and OWA.&nbsp; We were able to do a search for a recently sent email, and find it, but we were unable to locate where this email was being stored (and in our testing we would receive an error when trying to retrieve the body of the message).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eventually we discovered that the user now had 2 \u201cContacts\u201d folders, and sent items were now being stored in one of them.&nbsp; It seems as though the \u201cSent Items\u201d folder in Exchange for this particular user had been converted to a \u201cContacts\u201d folder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Outlook, looking at the properties of each of the \u201cContacts\u201d folders showed it set to post items as the type \u201cIPM.Contact\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"404\" height=\"549\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.4-it.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-861\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.4-it.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image.png 404w, https:\/\/blog.4-it.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-221x300.png 221w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 404px) 100vw, 404px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We would expect the \u201cSent Items\u201d folder to post as type \u201cIPM.Post\u201d, but unfortunately there is no wayy way to set this through Outlook.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Launching Outlook with the \u201cresetfoldernames\u201d switch made no difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to resolve the issue, we first had to edit the mailbox directly with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/stephenegriffin\/mfcmapi\/releases\/latest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MFCMapi<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ensure the Outlook Profile on the machine is set to Cached Mode, and then launch MFCMapi.exe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click \u201cSession \/ Logon\u201d and logon using the profile with the lost \u201cSent Items\u201d folder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"712\" height=\"531\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.4-it.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-862\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.4-it.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-1.png 712w, https:\/\/blog.4-it.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-1-300x224.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.4-it.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-1-402x300.png 402w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 712px) 100vw, 712px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Double-click the user\u2019s mailbox to open it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"710\" height=\"528\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.4-it.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-863\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.4-it.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-2.png 710w, https:\/\/blog.4-it.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-2-300x223.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.4-it.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-2-403x300.png 403w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 710px) 100vw, 710px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Expand \u201cRoot \u2013 Mailbox\u201d \/ \u201cIPM_SUBTREE\u201d and select the copy of \u201cContacts\u201d that contains the \u201cSent Items\u201d objects.&nbsp; If you\u2019re not sure which is which, expanding the actual \u201cContacts\u201d folder will show a handful of items nested underneath it related to your actual contacts and Global Address List.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>***Note: In the event you do not see \u201cIPM_SUBTREE\u201d but do see a \u201cTop of Information Store\u201d folder that you can expand, it means the profile you are using is set up in non-cached mode.\u00a0 You should change the profile to cached mode and then reconnect.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the \u201cproblem Contacts\u201d highlighted, there are 2 properties we need to look at updating.&nbsp;&nbsp;
